How to Become a Professional Tarot Reader
-In this article, you’ll learn the 7 steps on how to become a professional full-time tarot reader. If you are feeling called to help others with your talents, this is for you.
Step 1: Confidence
The first step to become a successful professional tarot reader or spiritual service provider is confidence. Without confidence, no matter what you do in your marketing efforts, it won’t matter. Confidence means knowing without a doubt that you can provide value to your clients, and not just any value, but value that is worth something.
One aspect of confidence as a reader or spiritual service provider is being able to communicate clearly what fields and topics you are comfortable working in. Some areas to consider are financial, medical, legal, fertility, and asking about other people, which I call spying. Different readers have different specialties, and it’s important to choose your own adventure game in terms of the areas you feel confident in reading for.
However, confidence also means being able to say no to what is out of your scope of practice. It’s important to have the confidence to decline readings or clients that you are not comfortable working with or areas that are beyond your expertise. Saying no when necessary is a sign of professional integrity and establishes trust with your clients.
On the other hand, confidence also means being able to say yes to opportunities that come your way. It’s about being open to new experiences and being willing to take risks. Saying yes to what shows up, to opportunities that align with your values and goals, and most importantly, saying yes to yourself and your own potential.
Confidence is not just about money, although we will talk about money more later. It’s about having faith in your abilities, believing in your worth as a professional, and valuing the services you provide. When you exude confidence, it instills trust in your clients and sets the stage for a successful relationship with them.
In conclusion, confidence is the foundation for success as a professional reader or spiritual service provider. It’s about knowing your strengths and limitations, communicating clearly with your clients, and being willing to say no or yes when appropriate. It’s about valuing yourself and your services, and having the faith to pursue opportunities that align with your goals. With confidence as your guiding principle, you can build a thriving practice and make a meaningful impact in the lives of your clients.
Step 2: Authenticity
Authenticity is crucial if you want to become a professional tarot reader or spiritual service provider. It’s tempting to strive for perfection. You don’t have to be perfect! Just be you. When you are authentic and true to yourself in how you present yourself, you naturally attract people with similar energy, karma, and values. These are the people who resonate with your authentic self, and they are the ones who are likely to become your clients or customers. It cannot be emphasized enough that being true to yourself is key in building a genuine connection with your audience.
As a professional reader or spiritual service provider, it’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to be someone you think you’re supposed to be. This may involve conforming to certain expectations such as having a specific website or social media presence, or projecting a particular image. However, as you embrace your authentic self and share it with the public, you’ll start to attract people who genuinely resonate with you on a deeper level. This results in more meaningful and fulfilling connections with your clients, making your work feel less like a job and more like play.
It’s important to remember that while there may be countless guides, spiritual service providers, and professionals in your field, you have a unique point of view and set of perspectives that will naturally attract the right people who will benefit from them. Trusting yourself and being authentic will enable you to attract those who align with your values and offerings, creating a more fulfilling and enjoyable professional journey. Embrace your authenticity and trust that it will lead you to the right people and opportunities.
Step 3: Know Your Craft
If you want to become a professional tarot reader or spiritual service provider, you’ll need to know your craft, and by “know your craft,” I mean knowing PEOPLE. If you’ve watched my material, you’ll know that I am a sucker for esoterica, mysticism, and Kabbalah. I love exploring absolute reality, situating myself in it, counting the nose hairs of God, playing with the code of the Matrix, and finding that absolute no thickness, etc. However, the thing is, most of my clients, at least my tarot clients, are not into these topics. My tarot students, on the other hand, are a different story.
When you’re working with clients one-on-one, most clients are looking to satisfy the four elements. Earth – how do I get paid? What are the ways to get laid? Air – how do I stay unafraid? Fire – how do I enjoy life’s parade? How do I connect to my purpose? Am I on the right path? Nine times out of ten, being a good listener and a good guide on your clients’ attractions and aversions is going to be much more effective and much more successful than teaching them about the tree of life or the Shem hum farash and the deacons of the zodiac.
That said, you can build a community that’s into that, but that’s a different level of work. If you’re interested in that, you should come talk to me.
Step 4: Charing Money
The fourth point, and this is really important, so pay attention, is money. The definition of a professional is one who charges for their occupation. If you want to become a professional tarot reader, this is important: I want to be totally honest with you guys. I used to have so many judgments and so many points of view about what money was and what it meant. I had all these stories running in my head from me, from past lifetimes, from other people. It was a mess, and I was honestly scared of money. I remember reading at a fair, and people would put money on the table, and I would feel weird taking it. I am so happy I got over that. Seriously, get over it now, it will serve you in the future.
I can almost guarantee that for the majority of people, what people are willing to pay for something is almost directly correlated to how invested they are in it. I’ve experienced this myself and with all of my clients. I’ve worked with thousands of clients, and I’ve worked with hundreds of students (in 2 years!) in my school from all over the world. For the most part, I have found that to be true. Obviously, everyone’s in a different financial reality, in a different situation, there are a lot of factors to it. But based on what somebody is willing to pay in relationship to what they have is honestly like that’s an investment in what they are about. And this has been the same for me. There have been many programs and many things that I’ve spent a lot of money on, and because I spent that money and because I made that commitment to myself, it literally paid off. It helped me create the world that I want.
When people pay, they pay attention, I guarantee it. And all of this goes back to that step one, that confidence. If you don’t have the confidence that you can really help somebody, then maybe it’s not time to charge. But once you know the value of your work and your craft, and once you’ve seen it in action and seen the state of somebody after they’ve worked with you, when you see that change, then you ask yourself, how much was that worth?
For all the spiritual people out there that say, “Oh, it’s spiritual work, it shouldn’t have to do with money,” that’s cool, you can have that point of view. Let’s see how long you last. Because another thing about money is when people pay you money, they’re saying, “There’s value in you that I want to receive. Here’s money so you can bring that value to more people.” It’s an investment, not only in themselves receiving your service, but in the general cause and in the work that you do. So, receive that, and the tool here to use is, what are you willing to receive?
Step 5: Online Marketing
If you’re looking to read professionally online, you need to get comfortable with some form of content creation or community building. It could be social media, or a blog (what I’m doing right now) or it could be a facebook group, or discord, or a book you publish, or . . . there’s a lot it could be. If you don’t show up somewhere, how are people going to find you? Let your marketing plan be part of your spiritual practice. As a capricorn sun conjuction with neptune and a pisces moon, I take every opportunity to merge my mystical path with business.
Yes, social media is superficial. It’s 2023, get over it. You can choose to complain about how the internet and social media is full of bs or you can contribute to it. I’ve had my tarot school open for 2 years now and I’ve enrolled enrolled hundreds of students all over the world, not because I know the most, (even though I know a lot), but because I give the most. You gotta give to get. Content creation isn’t award winning film editing or literature, it’s being you, providing value.
Step 6: In-Person Events
Maybe you don’t want to read online, maybe you want to read in person. If that’s the case, I would recommend finding a place that has consistent visitors where your craft would make sense. Obvious possibilities would be like a new age store, like a witchy shop or something, or a Renaissance Fair (those are my favorite). But it can also be more generic, like a coffee shop or a bar. In those situations, you really just want to build a relationship with the shop owners and ultimately build a community there.
Doing events is also very effective: corporate events, private events. I have enjoyed nightclubs. Every environment is going to have different pros and cons, and my best advice is to try everything, see what works, and stick with what you like. I cover all of that detail in my courses, which I will link below. So if you want clear step by step on all of those areas, definitely check them out below or shoot me an email at [email protected]
Step 7: Word of Mouth
Everything that I just mentioned, the in-person work, the online work, the marketing, all of that generates word of mouth. This is where confidence really shines. When you can bring someone a life-changing experience, or at least a very significant session or realization or new perspective, they’re going to talk about you. They’ll tell their friends, family, and co-workers about the service you offer. You can even ask them at the end of a reading if they have any friends, family, or co-workers who could use your services. If the reading goes really well, don’t be afraid to ask for a testimonial.
Step 8: Consistency
My capricorn sun is really gonna show here but . . . becoming a professional tarot reader or running a spiritual business is hard work. Here’s the thing about hard work. If you are truly drawn to something, and it’s REALLY your desire and not someone else’s, you won’t be able to sit still. Everything you do will in some way contribute to that goal. All I do is work, because, for the most part, my work is play. I do what I love and I keep doing it for the large majority of my waking hours, because it’s my nature. It’s my nature to gather mystical misfits and talk about mysticism. It’s my nature to work with over-thinkers and give them something new to think about. I do what I do because I love it, and I don’t stop. If you want something enough, you’ll keep going.
